Paypal Standard was working fine. Sunday my email server was changed to a different server address, My email address remained the same. Starting Monday Afternoon callbacks from Paypal hung up on changing status of the order, and not sending a confirmation email. The call back does open and display the success page. Oddly, Authorize.net works fine.
The change to a different smtp outgoing server was made in the opencart store settings, and nothing else was changed.
Any ideas resolve this?

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
Since the IPN from Paypal was triggering the success page I kept the focus on the email address for both my paypal account and the opencart set up. I think that was part of the solution, but last night I turned off the cache and the file controls in Apache, nginx and php settings. Let them stay off for a an hour or so, turned them back on, and today everything is working!!!
