Greetings everybody!

I've been searching these forums quite a bit, and found several posts about First Class Mail Parcel, but honestly found the questions a little rambling and confusing (no offense!). So I just wanted to say it plainly:

First Class Mail Parcel shipping option does not appear for our products in checkout.

Notes:
  • We ship out small model trains, they are light enough for first-class parcel rates.
  • We did try enabling "First Class Mail Letter" as an experiment, and this letter rate did appear in the shopping cart.
Our site is www.micro-trains.com

Does anyone have some insight into this issue?

Thank you so much for your help!

First class "letter" means it's an envelope that meets other dimensional qualifiers
See the table here: https://www.stamps.com/usps/first-class-mail/

But you should be able to get first class package to show up.

Thank you for getting back to me Qphoria!

We enabled First Class Letter as an experiment to see if any "first class" options would appear, which it did. I agree that we should be able to get first class parcel to appear, but for some reason it isn't.

Is there perhaps some way to tell the cart that the object is meant to be a package? Because when "first class letter" is enabled the "first class letter" option does appear, but "first class parcel" just won't show up... Could OpenCart be interpreting our product to be something which fits a "letter" but not a "parcel"... or?

Really appreciate any assistance with this. It's a mystery to us!

PS: Also, according to the link you sent me "First Class Letter" should never appear if the "Shipping" OpenCart extension is taking into account the shape of the product. All of our products are too thick to qualify for "First Class Letter".

One product for example is 5" x 1.5" x 1"

These dimensions qualify it for "First Class Package" rates, and, strangely, even though its thickness of 1" is too thick for "First Class Letter" if I enable the "First Class Letter" shipping option, it appears as a shipping option for that product.

Warning! Sharing some brainstorming/half-baked thoughts now:

This makes me wonder if perhaps the "USPS" Shipping extension for OpenCart maybe needs to be updated? For instance, USPS calls the rate in question "First Class Package", not "First Class Parcel" which is what OpenCart calls it. I'm assuming that the shipping options are being generated automatically via the API - so maybe the Shipping extension is not synchronized with the current USPS API?
