Hi,

Researching all ecommerce platforms for last few days for my first ecommerce project. OC won me over, but one thing is confusing me more then anything is that, some say OC is light and fast and some say OC dead slow. Two extreme opinions when it comes to site's speed.

I hope enlighten masters of OC put me on the right path.

Thanks

Definitely not a dead slow. The engine itself is pretty simple.

Professional OpenCart extensions, support and custom work.

Compared to the other ecommerce platforms out there, OpenCart is incredibly light and fast.

You can see a comparison with Magento here:

What in particular is confusing you?

OC is only one piece of a system, consisting out of a Server and a Software.
Just compare it with a VW Buggy, you won't get more performance, or higher speed,
by just adding racing Tires to it. :laugh:

But like everywhere else, there are always Cheapies, trying to get something for nothing,
by i.E. placing an OC Software on a free Host, and expecting it to work, as it could, if
installed on a high performance Server.

STILL, a few ways exist, to even peak OC up to the top, by nature of things. Again,
it's like fine-tuning a Car, and for this, it requires some 'talent', again - like everywhere
else, to make it perform, as it could.

But it will take some time, and many tests, to eventually end up with results
like shown below. Still, depending on additional 'Goodies' on a Page, such
'Results' drop rather fast again.... :'(
Good Luck! ;)

Thanks guys,

@paulfeakins
confusion, the same, site loading times, I didn't consider Magento as it seemed bit too much for me. you kind of closed the deal for in choosing OC. would suggest best OC version for me, if you could.

@IP_CAM
are you still using OC version 1.5.x.x, if so why?

Well, better never change a winning horse, despite of, what others may say. There is abolutely nothing
I miss, in contrary, my Sources on Wisdom and Knowledge still surpass everything else by far. And there
is nothing, I miss, exept for new problems, and frequent new changes, if I would get divorced, just to find
myself at the startingline again, and again, and again. :crazy:

I compared it with my Wife, we know each other for 4+ decades, and I know, where to fix what, if she ever does
not act, as I expect it. And the same is the case with my beloved Version OC, the largest ever assortment of
Goodies exist, to still make her look like a young Lady, and when it comes to performance and and stability,
my Baby shows THE unbeaten record, compared with anything else existing, so far at least.

The only negative Side may be, that there is not much money to generate anymore, since just about everything
exists. But this is not my Problem either, I use, what I know best, and as long as it stays this way, it would be a Nut,
to jump onto a Bandwaggon, not offering anything, really better, than it used to be before.

But this is only my very personal Opinion on this, and I don't want to keep anyone from using latest Versions.
It's not my problem anyhow, and I did not come to OC, to play free Tester, but get something, known to work :D

@IP_CAM

Sorry... I haven't logged in last few days as busy with other things...

Thanks for the very knowledgeable post, almost philosophical. I like the way you're thinking...

... But I need few functionalities like Abandoned cart recovery, cross-selling / up-selling, stripe payment gateway to name few essentials, can I get those with v1.5

Thanks again.

I think I can answer this pretty definitively. OC is one of the fastest if not the fastest online platforms. I can demonstrate with a few examples. We have created the two following websites

Website 1 (fast website)
A Greek company specialising in women's fashion, clothing and shoes. They are the in the top 10 companies in the field.
https://www.torouxo.gr
Currently the website has ACTIVE
Women Shoes: 500 different models
Men Shoes: 500 different models
Womens Clothing: 1500 items (almost all new for season Winter 2018)
Mens Clothing: 1000 items (almost new for season Winter 2018)
Accessories: 1000 items

The average speed per page is 0.9 seconds. Attached the Alexa report

Website( SUPER fast website)
https://www.prettything.com.cy
We created this website for a company based in Cyprus also involved in Fashion selling men's and Women'n clothing, shoes and accessories. They are the leader in the field for that country. Τyping "Γυναικεία ρούχα Κύπρος online" (Women clothing Cyprus) on google.com.cy they always are first. They had a really slow magento site and asked us to move them over to OC. currently the page has over 6000 active items of clothing and shoes.

The average speed per page is 0.7 seconds. attached the Alexa report

OC is a fantastic platform so long as you spend sometime understanding how it works.

Well, it all exists, and some of it comes for free, still, some of it already faded away from the OC extension section,
but can partly still be found on other Forums, like the russian OC Scene, by searching Google by use of keywords.
Good Luck ! ;)

@Ctsimpos:
Well, there is still a lot of air left, compared with, what OC is able to do,
if configured/set, as advised by GTMetrix.com ! :D
Just to mention it, because anything below 88% should not be accepted.
