Cannot get 1.5.6.4 to install

I have looked through the forums but not found an answer that seems to help.

I have installed OC in a sub domain I just created. So it was nice & empty and a totally fresh install. It seemed to work ok, though all the permissions needed changing to 777, which is not good. But then I got a blank white screen when I went to delete the sample products in the admin. And if I clicked on a product it gave me a blank white screen too.

I read some posts about corrupted files so I deleted everything. The image folder would not delete though. I ignored that and uploaded all the files again. This time all the permissions passed the test. But the GD module didn't. That got turned on in my control panel.

Went to run the install and all I get is a blank white page. In the image folder, that I presume got overwritten, I cannot delete any images. In ftp I get this error:

550 canon_logo-80x80.jpg: Permission denied
: /shop.thetricklingtap.co.uk/image/cache/data/demo/canon_logo-80x80.jpg
DELE apple_logo-80x80.jpg

No idea what to try next

What FTP client did you use to upload?

I had a similar issue when I once used CuteFTP. For some reason I was locked out from deleting certain files.

I ended up having to contact the web host company, who changed the permissions from their end and I was able to delete things again.

From the little knowledge I have, some FTP clients can mess up permissions and lock you out of editing/deleting files.

Best advice is to contact your webhost, explain the issue you have and ask them to reset your permissions and the files permissions.

I have been using FireFTP after having some problems with FileZilla. Which I had swapped to some years ago after problems with CuteFTP....

I will tell my host and see what they can do.

I just installed 1.5.6.4 on my windows 7 machine using local host under Xampp. I can access the program and admin but certain thing don't work, like the states drop down when trying to register or in localization. Also I cannot add subcategories under categories because no parent categories show up to put them under. I also type in a store name but nothing shows up. Should I go back to an older version, is there still issues with 1.5.6.4?
