images don't show in the image manager

Hi,
I've just installed opencart and I'm trying to change the demo shop to something of my own.

I've deleted all products thru the admin panel and right now I'm trying to create new manufacturers and have the appear in the carousel. I'm creating 100x100 png images for the manufacturers, like the ones I show there, and I upload them using the image manager but they just don't show!

The image doesn't show when I add it to the manufacturer and it doesn't show in the banner. Well, matter of fact, the image manager doesn't show any image, only their names. What am I doing wrong?

Are you on v1.5.6.2? Try replacing system/helper/utf8.php with the one that comes with v1.5.6.1
