Buy three items in a category, and pay the cheaper one at 50% discount

It is possible to buy three items in a category, and pay the cheaper one at 50% discount? Is there a plugin or some vqmod?

If all items are the same price, you can do this with a flat discount using Category & Product-Based Fee/Discount. For example, if all products in the category were $10.00,
then you'd create a Quantity discount like this:

3-5 = -5.00
6-8 = -10.00
9-11 = -15.00
etc.

If your products are NOT all the same price, then you can do it with Ultimate Fee/Discount. It has a particular charge type for this situation. Here's an example:

Title: Buy 2 Get 1 50% Off
Group: A
Charge Type: Buy X Get Y Z% Off
Charge Field: 2 = 1 / 50%
Rule: Category is Category A

Thank you for your kindly reply, but your example works by buying 3 same items, and then apply a discount.
My needs instead are to buy 3 different items in a category, and then applying a discount of 50% on the cheaper one.
Would it be possible?

That's what that charge in Ultimate Fee/Discount does. Since it uses a "Category" rule, any product that's from the category will qualify. Once 3 items are reached, the cheapest one will get 50% off. If you get 6 items, the two cheapest will get 50% off, and so on.
