Just upgraded from OC 1.5.6.4 to 2.3.0.2 and have noticed a layout difference for sub categories, in that they are now listed within their own seperate box, where before they were just listed within the box of their parent.
I am using the BooCity theme from theme global, and checked their demo site and it does have sub categories listed within the box of their parent, although I don't know which version of OC their demo site is running.
Its a bit hard to explain so here are some screenshots from OC1 and OC2, looking at the category menu and how the sub categories are listed.

Is there a difference between earlier OC2 than latest ?
How can I make the sub categories listed be more compact by being part of the parents box/frame
