old site to latest version advice please

Hi Guys

I have searched around and considered before just posting up a new thread. But I genuinely can't find the advice I'm looking for.

So I have a site sample.com running opencart 1.5.1.1 and it has been Vmod and messed around bit over time. I'd like to upgrade it to 2.x, really whichever is recommended latest stable version.

I have several options, but I'd like advice/comments please.

Option 1
Try to export the products, categories and customers to import into a fresh install on the same domain. This seems to present challenges with the differences in the databases.

Option 2
Manually copy the products, categories (and forget the customer records) to our other domain sample.co.uk and then manually transfer into the fresh install on the sample.com
This is time-consuming, but gives me the opportunity to rewrite/improve each area.

Option 3
I don't know, any suggestions?

Well, if you want this to work, you either accept to invest a day, or two, or a week, on time and
'good' knowledge, to possibly make it work. Or you contact one of the Pro's, like Qphoria, Peku,
or one of the other known Specialists, and then, you will end up with a CLEAN working Place.
It's too much different, changed, moved, new, dropped, e.t.c., and there never was an official 'way of doing it'.

It is possible to upgrade all products categories, customers, orders and information pages to latest oc version.
Its not a simple upgrade but a lot off steps that has to be done in the right order.
