Integrating With Custom CMS Login and database

Hi all, so far, I am really liking OC.

Here's my goal. I have a custom cms, with a member's table, full of members. When they log-in, I would like to log them into OC as well. I will of course, check to see if they have a OC _customer row, and if they don't make one.

Now my question is this, OC uses sessions, we are using cookies. We use just a plain cookie to track our users, along with stamping the member's row with the cookie value. Where can I set the session, and associate that session with that customer/user's row in OC?
