options help please

hi guys im realy new to this world so please a little help please.
when i list a product using options it is doubled or adds the first listing price to any option .
i understand this is because i have a price entered in the data section so therefore it adds it onto the option selected. i can get round it by removing the price and weight from the data section but the listing looks pritty naff as your product then shows as £0.0 until you go into it . but i think this will discourage people from entering. is there a better way around this guys?????
