Reward Point VAT Deduction - how do I change

Hello
I am setting up the Reward Point system on my website but have noticed that when points are deducted from orders, the VAT amount is removed... eg 1000 points becomes £0.83 instead of £1.00.
I think is going to cause an issue with customers and would prefer the VAT element to not be deducted so that 1000 points is equal to a £1.00 deduction.
Can anybody tell me how to do this, I know it has something to do with catalog/model/total/reward.php but have no clue how to change it to do what I require.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am using version 1.5.6.4
