PayPal Checkout Problem
Hi there
Just producing a new site on 1.5.3.1 and testing out various stuff. http://www.secure-usb.com
I have gone through the check out process via PayPal and when I go to the PayPal site I get the following:

This is not what a customer needs to see and is probably illegal as it does not show the tax and shipping individually. If I was buying something I would immediately withdraw from this transaction.
Am I doing something wrong or is this how v1.5.3.1 works ? I have previously used v1.4.9.5 and it shows the individual tax and shipping costs separately therefore making it quite clear to customers what they are paying for.
Can anyone advise me?
Thanks in advance

Re: PayPal Checkout Problem
eh.. overdramatic much? I suppose it can be improved, but it is done this way due to a paypal bug that they will not be fixing.
So the work around is to itemize the totals as individual product items, at least for totals that are not shipping or tax. So it can be improved a bit but don't think anyone is losing sleep over it at the moment.
It is true that in 1.4.9.x I added a lot more conditional code to show tax and shipping as their own lines if discount was less than the item total.. that was simplified in 1.5.x which is why you see it this way currently. At the very least that can probably be restored.

Re: PayPal Checkout Problem
Hi Qphoria
Thank you very much for your reply, I appreciate your logic behind the simplification.
However, given that there is a large drop out of customers between cart and purchase - anything to help reduce this would be beneficial.
Changing the details of the order, ie: what you see on the cart before confirming order and then seeing a different cart on PayPal increases the chance of sales dropout - this is not good.
You mention that the information sent to PayPal |(from 1.5.3) can be restored to how it was with 1.4.9x. Is this something Opencart are going to do or is this something that I will have to do?
If the latter - can you provide instructions ?
Thank you very much in advance

Re: PayPal Checkout Problem
Hi
Does anyone kow how to fix this issue?
I need to show all aspects of the cart when it goes through to PayPal. ie:
Item price (of product being sold)
Postage Cost
Any discounts
VAT amount
Total
This used to work perfectly in v1.4.9x but now in 1.5.3x when transferred to PayPAl it only shows:
Item price (of product being sold)
And
One amount for everything else (see above image on my first post)
The problem is: I have now asked about 30 people to go through the check out process and everyone of them has queried the PayPal page saying it looks totally different to the checkout and that they cannot understand what they are paying for ie: a big amount with the generic heading of "Shipping, Handling, Discounts, Tax..." (It is no longer itemised)
When asked if they would make payment, most of my trial sample said no.
All I want is the information on check out (on opencart site), when sent to PayPal, to be exactly the same - not too much to ask for is it?
Can anybody help
Thanks in advance

Re: PayPal Checkout Problem
It is something we plan on adding back. Tho I really doubt any significant customer drop out is due to that.

Re: PayPal Checkout Problem
Hi there - trying to use OpenCart now for the first time (having used ZenCart and others for other projects) and doing this for norwegian clients, this is actually a really big issue, since norwegian law states that tax etc needs to be itemized all the way through the shopping process. I think this also goes for other scandinavian countries - tax, shipping, etc has to be on separate lines, by law.
So right now I can't use this and paypal for my client, which is really sad since OpenCart is by far the most intuitive and unbloated shopping solution I have seen in a long time.
If you have any information regarding when the solution might be added in to OpenCart that would be appreciated
As for how stuff needs to work to follow the law in norwegian (and scandinavian eshops, here is a quick rundown:
The thing is that this is not part of most carts, meaning we have to jerk everything around to get it to work as demanded by norwegian law.
So, if this is somehow doable, and doable fast, OpenCart could be the very first solution to make this a) simple and b) work.
One possibility would be to have one simple page of settings for product price display (show prices incl/excl. VAT in the shop setting toggle, show price excl VAT on separate line (yes/no) - and also a settings page for your cart/checkout where the settings would be something like:
1. Show item prices including VAT (yes/no)
2. Show accumulated VAT on a separate line (yes/no)
3. Show Total including VAT (yes/no)
This way one could custom tailor the cart/checkout - but the main question is if we can then pass this to the paypal-solution like this.
So, Is this doable any time soon?

As for how stuff needs to work to follow the law in norwegian (and scandinavian eshops, here is a quick rundown:
- Prices needs to be shown including MVA (norvegian VAT) at all times when presenting products on the front page, category pages etc
- When in the cart and everywhere during the checkout process the product prices needs to show incl. MVA - BUT there needs to be a separate line showing how much of the subtotal is MVA - an example with norwegian mva (25%):
- Product 1 125 NOK (this is including a 25% MVA)
- Product 2 - 125 NOK (this is including a 25% MVA)
- SubTotal = 250 NOK
- Of this MVA (25%) is: 50 NOK
- So norwegian shops needs to list each item INCL. MVA
- It then needs to show a sub total
- Then it needs to show how much of that sub total is MVA (25%)
- Then we have to show the Total Amount
- If there is any shipping in there it needs to list that as a separate item as well
The thing is that this is not part of most carts, meaning we have to jerk everything around to get it to work as demanded by norwegian law.

Re: PayPal Checkout Problem
You can use Paypal Express. It supports full itemizing of all the order totals.
The problem with normal paypal is that it doesn't support negative line items, which is key for discount total lines.
Paypal Express does support that and the module linked supports full itemized line totals for each individual tax, fee, discount, etc.
