After following all of the directions to upgrade to 2.1.0.2 from 2.0.1.0 site will not load correctly and I can no longer login to the admin panel. Did not upload the config files so should not have had the problem. Can someone tell me what is wrong and how do I fix it? Thanks in advanced

The directions in the upgrade.txt file for 2.1.0.2. I know I'm a pretty stupid person, but I can read and relatively follow directions. After loading upgrade it said it was successful. I refreshed everything (the way it said to in the directions). And when I went to admin panel to log in, it not longer accepts my password. And everything as far as banners and product are now gone on the front end. If there are countless others who are having the same problem, then maybe either the directions are wrong or the processes of the program are. If it was user error on my part, I would not have asked for help in the first place. Either way, it needs to work regardless of whether someone is a novice or an expert in programming.

Code: Select all

OpenCart V1.5.x TO 1.5.x ///

DO NOT USE THIS UPGRADE TO CONVERT FROM 1.4.x to 1.5.x!!
If you have 1.4.x and want to upgrade to 1.5.x, You need to use the script here:
http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50292
##########################################
But it's not really your fault only, still, when reading the TOP LINE , I read:
OpenCart V1.5.x TO 1.5.x Upgrade Instructions
and nowhere, anything is mentioned to have any relations with OC2.

For some fully unknown reason, OC has not even cared, to UPGRADE at least this ONLY piece of information. It's a pitty, because uncounted Masses of Users already screwed up, and Others will, likely because of this VERY MINOR , but upmost important DETAIL... :-\
...

But it also could have been another OC-2 Version, you used before, and because of
this, I asked the question in the first place, because all, it requires, is FACTS,
to assist others.

Sorry to hear about your trouble jshirey34. Those of us who have used OC since the good ol' 1.X days remember when you could actually update to the latest version almost like "real" software!

For now, the conventional wisdom says to only do clean installs for various 2.X versions. I just downloaded the latest version out of curiosity to see if there had been any change to the instructions...nope.

I'm just amazed that Mr. D or someone doesn't simply open that old upgrade.txt file that's been unchanged since the days of 1.X and simply write "OPENCART 2.X CANNOT BE UPGRADED AT THIS TIME - PLEASE REFER TO INSTALL.TXT FILE TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL"

It would take all of 4 minutes!

That said, I think your best bet is to hire someone you can find through the forums to fix your upgrade for you.

Best of luck with your fix.

Sincerely,

Tony

thanks tony. I think I'll just look for another cart solution than OC. This isn't the first time we've had drama with this program, and I can't run a business always fixing problems with upgrades. appreciate the help

No problem jshirey34, that's not a bad idea. I have built multiple OpenCart sites for myself and others but I always tell people that OC (or any open source solution) is not a good choice for anyone who doesn't have time to deal with all of the problems. It's really a good solution if you have a very limited budget and don't mind doing a lot of tinkering.

If you really want to focus on selling products and don't like to mess around with data bases, php, etc. you should probably go with one of the many hosted cart solutions. They just work and if there's a problem, they fix it, not you.

Best of luck and good selling to you!

Thanks CelBot, you've just ended a good few hours of head scratching. I've been attempting to upgrade from 2.0.2.0.
Thanks

True. Opencart is not a good choice of open source solution. It is the best of open source solution! I did spend few years trying the others (also popular) open source. But in the end... I'm back here.

I don't have a very limited budget, but I can still appreciate and enjoy the freedom (tinkering) that OC gives me in how to run my online business. Problems? The only problems I see is when people start to dicking around with files and they don't know what they are doing. Now in this example, while I'm sorry for jshirey34 problem, I can't help to think of how many times I read posts here about the fact that the new version of OC has completely change his DB structure from previous version and therefore made this a not so easy upgrade. Now, you can chose to ignore that , but you can't blame the software for someone shortcoming in having a precise idea of what the requirement were for to upgrade. Daniel Kerr can do with his software as it pleased. Is up to you to keep up with the game.

So as you can see, you were right. Opencart is not for everyone... You really need to know what you are doing to use this software, especially when you try to use the latest version and everybody around you tells you that you shouldn't! Opencart 2.x can be upgrade, it is just not that simple. I'll give you that.. :)

And I completely agree: the upgrade text file should be written in a more responsible and concise manner

Hopefully Opencart 2.2.x.x will be a new chapter...

Over 95% of all computer problems can be traced back to the interface between the keyboard and the chair...

but you don't have to upgrade from late OC 1.5.6.x , there is no need to upgrade anything, really.

It's just comparable with my good old WIN XP, I use for more than a decade with no problem at all. But some cannot wait, to always download the latest Versions, of ANYTHING, for some fully unknown reason. Then, they find out, that the latest Releases are not doing, what they expect, or then, don't work well with existing hardware, and everybody starts to complain...

If OC 2 would cost some money, I bet, just very few would just upgrade, but since it comes for free, everbody want's it. And they want it so bad, they don't even bother to check first, i.E., here at the Forum, for possible problems.

Just to mention it. Take it, or leave it, nobody is forcing anyone, it all comes for free!
Even the outdated read-me file..., not mentioning OC 2 on a single line! :D
