OpenCart v.2 Translation Project at Crowdin.

A language should never be a paid extension or something like that.

Get all languages for free at crowdin.
Help to translate OpenCart into almost all languages, help to improve the translations itself.

Be part of OpenCart, become a volunteer.

Awesome! I've started work on US English, not that it takes a huge amount of changes.

I agree!

I've made this topic Global for everyone to see.

I will start working on the Dutch translation this weekend.

It will still be available in the Extensions until this project is widely known.

Small question; how to separate the translation per OC version?

Not sure how you mean that.
There are 2 projects at crowdin: 1 for OC 1.5. and the 2nd (this) for OC 2.x
I can share the link to the 1.5 prject as well.
Had to seperate them otherwise with every download both branches are included.

There's an upload option in the little gearbox next to the file "Translate" button.

Generally at crowdin are 2 types of 'members':

1. translators
2. proofreaders

As a translator you can suggest everytime a new translation / suggestion.
A proofreader is also a translator, but has more possibilities. He can finally accept (or decline) suggestions.

New language packs will be published with accepted suggestions.

So every language should have at least min. 1 proofreader to ensure a high quality.
I encourage everyone to participate, either as translator or/and as proofreader.
See here Translators / Proofreaders

There are 2 ways to get a language pack, read more about here:

What about a small change in the platform: the language variables to become $lang_string, i.e. adding the prefix "lang" to all language strings (variables) in opencart code.

If this is set we can create an extension that would allow users to easily find and translate or just change language strings.

That is every file in the repository with those words, so if they're not the ones then it's not in the repo

Well, it is nice to have 'official' translations projects - after many years of useless messages to start such a project.
That was the reason I have created 2 years ago that project, added a few weeks ago the v.2 branch.

If Daniel is using the crowdin-API to pull translations into the shops - good idea.
But only if there would be many languages and translated strings ...

I have no problem to close 'my' project if the users prefer the new project.
I would suggest, that Daniel and/or James is inviting translators and proofreaders to bring that project to a higher level than it as currently.

What I do not want is that every translator is wasting his time!
Just let me know what you are thinking.

Is it possible to upload the whole translation in one go?

Uploading every string per string I'm not going to.

It would be better before matching here, to define the general and 'official' naming convention for languages as suggested so many times - and never be answered and decided!

For example: you could use
english
en
en-GB
en_GB

This is possible for every language!
It is useless to translate and go ahead if there is no official decision how languages should be named!
Because every 3PD (extension developer) who wants to translate his extension should use the correct and 'official' language name.
Otherwise we will have several files which cannot be used!

I use "finnish" in file names, but right now when i downloaded "blank" files they are fi-FI so hmm... I think we have many language pack for sell soon ::)

I dosent matter what Daniel is thinking, mayby trying to get more "power" when he has control or something. My translations are in github and i share them free...Because nobody cares what i or other finnish developers do. So mayby best way is keep going that way...

Selling is the wrong approach ...
M4ketech wrote:I dosent matter what Daniel is thinking ..
Basically correct, as long as he makes decisions.
OpenCart is not any more a 'one-man-show', so decisions have to be made - they should be valid for all.
