Hi there.

I am currently rebuilding my online shop with Open Cart. I noticed the multi-store facility which seemed cool as I own two online shops which are exclusive of each other in terms of brand but have multiple cross-overs in terms of stock.

Currently the stores both have a typical url and hold their exclusive server space and do very well with SEO.

However my question is if I follow the multi store procedure shown here will this be bad for SEO going forwards?

Sure it will save me time on back end admin and bookkeeping etc but SEO is more important than saving a little time.

So what are your opinions and experiences of this please?

Nope. You can rank for all stores using multistores. I have 32 at the moment, all with fairly good rankings (some I haven't worked on a lot yet but still get traffic/sales). My page rank for each is at least 3 and my alexa rank US is under 100k for many of them, under 100k worldwide for a few even.

I have a thread on SEO and opencart so do a search.

Oh and http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?t=27538 is the best instructions for how to set up multistores.

The multi-store option is better as it transfers the domain authority. where as the drawback is once you are hit by Google update you all multi-store will go down at the same time,
If you are performing well on SEO go for multi-store and if you don't trust your SEO staff and then bring diversity.
