Re: Remove "Opencart" word and logo on Home Page

You're right, it's not always easy to tell.

There is some good documentation to guide you through these days, but to be honest I learnt mostly through trial and error and lurking on this forum. 8)

Re: Opencart SEO, Google Pagerank and Internal Linking

For interest: Google have rolled out around 40 changes in the past few weeks. http://insidesearch.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/search-quality-highlights-40-changes.html With respect to links, they say, very casually: We have changed the way in which we evaluate links; in particular, we are turning off a m...

Re: SEO keyword arrangement help?

When entering products there's 'meta tag keywords', meta tag description' and 'product tags' all under the General Tab. Then on the Data tab there's 'SEO Keyword'. Do all these fields need to be completed? If not all these fields then which one is the best? Is it just the SEO field? Cheers Gill Hi ...

Re: Opencart SEO and Google Pagerank for Product pages

I have asked various people about this and get mixed messages. One person informed me that as my product pages use Canonical links so i will never get Pagerank! A number of other people suggested that I ignore my pagerank stats.. Hi Joan....hmm, whoever said that about canonical links surely got it...

Re: Speed up your opencart shop

It looks as if gifs pulled from Worldpay aren't responding to the htaccess instruction nor are .js called from on site Examples https://secure.worldpay.com/jsp/shopper/pictures/poweredByWorldPay.gif http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js http://mydomain.com/catalog/view/javascript/common.js .htacces...

Re: Google to start penalizing overly-optimized sites

Thank you, Johnathan - good find! I wonder what they mean by 'overly-optimised'. I guess we will soon see. :drunk: This item mentioned 'semantic search' at the same time - maybe they're now starting to look at microdata /rich snippets or whatever they wanna call it as well?: "to provide more relevan...

Re: Speed up your opencart shop

I was just reading through this all and I was wondering if you can use the server cache and .css version together? Or is this a problem. I did the server cache and that alone got my site from 61 to 85 points. Just wondering what the best route to take is. yes, that should be fine. The thing is, if ...

Re: 1.5.2 Has rendered my site useless

That is great news. If you have a full home backup and a database, you are good to go with restoring your original store. An upgrade will often change the structure / content of the database, so you can't usually just dump your original shop files back in there, not even file by file. To be on the s...

Re: 1.5.2 Has rendered my site useless

hello Steve, Before you do anything with frontpage – do you have a backup of your shop files and database (the latter taken via phpmyadmin, not via the shop backend)? If so, no worries, you can restore a backup. But I'm guessing you wouldn't be posting this appeal, if that was the case. If you don't...

Re: Is it possible to add a default product image?

It appears automatically on products with no image. Very easy. hmm, sorry, let 's correct that. It appeared automatically on older versions of OC, but this feature seems to be missing in 1.5x. No idea why. However, you can still upload the no-image.jpg to your main image folder, and click o...

Re: Is it possible to add a default product image?

There's one in the default Opencart download ...image/cache/no_image

It appears automatically on products with no image. Very easy.
You can place a copy in your image folder too: comes in handy if you need to remove an image, as you can just swop any redundant pictures for the no-image.jpg.

It's not as bad as it looks! You can safely miss out Step 2.

Re: Speed up your opencart shop

...Hi Brook: yes, that's it exactly. Add the ?=v1.17 etc to the end of the css URL in the header.tpl. That will force the page to reload the CSS file, when you make a change to it. This is what I did, and it worked. Couldn't find a step by step explanation, though this one is not bad. http://www.ste...

Re: Speed up your opencart shop

Hi Brook. It seems to work by adding a query string to the end of the stylesheet reference in the header.tpl . stylesheet.css ?v=1.14 But the stylesheet keeps its original filename, stylesheet.css. So when you upload a fresh version of stylesheet.css , you then change the URL in the header.tpl so it...
